Lanzarote’s Cabildo is considering a motor-racing circuit north of Arrecife, it was revealed yesterday.
The Cabildo’s Public Works councillor, Jacobo Medina, yesterday said that the draft version of the next General Plan for the island includes a proposal for a motor-racing circuit to be constructed between northern Arrecife and San Bartolomé.
Medina told Radio Lanzarote that such a circuit was a “long-standing request from the motor-racing sector on the island” although he pointed out that “this is a draft plan that we need to study and evaluate. It has been delivered to us and we’ve presented it.”
Any such initiative is likely to receive strong opposition from environmentalists, as well as those who argue that public money might be better spent.
