The Cabildo has launched its 2026 transport improvements, focusing on strengthening southern connections and expanding timetables in the north and centre.

The new 4H hospital route (from Arrecife’s Intercambiador to the General Hospital) addresses a long-standing public demand and has seen high usage since its introduction just days ago. In the south, the Cabildo has increased the frequency on the busy Arrecife to Playa Blanca routes (Lines 6, 60, and 62), responding to one of the island’s highest volumes of daily travel and improving links between the capital and the southern resort.

The push for a more balanced transport network across Lanzarote is also seen in the north-central area. Schedules have been extended on Line 7 (Arrecife–Máguez), Line 10 (Arrecife–Los Valles), and Line 9 (Arrecife–Órzola). The Line 9 service to Órzola has received particular attention, with its connection to the airport enhanced. The more direct routing via the Intercambiador is designed to facilitate mobility for both residents and visitors in the north.

Lanzarote’s president, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed that these are not standalone changes. “These improvements are not isolated decisions, but rather the result of the Lanzarote Island Plan for Sustainable Transport and Mobility, designed at the beginning of this term of office to reverse years of lack of planning,” he said. Betancort noted that “the island had a lost term between 2019 and 2023 in terms of mobility, and today we are beginning to see concrete realities that seek to improve people’s daily lives.”

Miguel Ángel Jiménez, the island’s Minister of Transport and Mobility, echoed this sentiment. “Users continue to come to the Transport Department to put forward their demands and proposals, which shows that citizens are aware that this Cabildo listens and acts. This trust is essential for continuing to adjust and improve the service,” he stated.

Jiménez acknowledged ongoing work while pointing to tangible progress. “Although there are still improvements to be made, there are many verifiable facts that reflect a radical change in policy, both in the acquisition of new buses (23 of which were added in the last year) and in the improvement and creation of new routes.” He cited Playa Blanca as an immediate example, where increased frequencies on lines 60 and 62 have raised the total number of daily services from 66 to 80.
