6.65 million journeys were taken on Lanzarote’s interurban bus services last year – a rise of almost 30% on the year before. The figures mean that around 18,500 bus passengers use the service each day.

The busiest routes were the main connections between Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife and Costa Teguise, reflecting the nature of employment in the tourist sector as well as an increased tendency for tourists to use public transport.

Apart from February and April, when figures fell a little, there was no great difference in the number of users during holiday times and other periods of the year. Surprisingly, November was when most journeys were taken – 619,300.

The huge rise in journeys also reflects the introduction of free travel for regular bus users, which was introduced in 2022

It is forecast that this year is likely to see more than 7 million journeys, as long as buses remain in service and new electric models are introduced.
