National Hispanic Heritage Month (or Mes nacional de la herencia hispana in Spanish) is an annual celebration in the United States that recognises the contribution and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the country.
Last week, local Lanzarote artist Eve Ruiz was invited to an event at the White House as part of the celebration.
In an Instagram post Ruiz wrote, “Yesterday was a day I will always remember. An honour as a Canarian woman to represent my land in places I could never have imagined.”.
The slideshow of images shows Ruiz stood in front of the White House and inside next to a portrait of Michelle Obama along with others.
