Lanzarote’s Cabildo has commissioned a statue in honour of Kenneth Gasque, the founder of the Lanzarote Ironman contest, and the man who, more than anyone, has contributed to the island’s reputation as a premier sporting destination.

The statue will be located in Puerto del Carmen, where the Ironman starts and finishes, and will be created by local artist Cintia Machin.

Machín is a young sculptor whose previous public works include the statue of Víctor Fernández Gopar at Las Breñas and Mararia at the Femes viewpoint.

Juan Monzón, Cabildo sports councillor, said “Kenneth represents, without a doubt, the birth and growth of Ironman on Lanzarote and it is our duty to show how much he is valued.”
