At the Michelin awards event last night, restaurant owner Rubén Cuesta headed onto the stage to be presented with an incredible achievement – the island’s first Michelin star.

On Facebook the restaurant wrote: “We are delighted and very grateful that Michelin Guide has given us the honour of having Lanzarote’s first Michelin star shining on our restaurant. For Kamezí it is a great challenge, a boost and a great illusion.”.

Yaiza Ayuntamiento hailed the restaurant on Facebook as the “pride of our municipality of Yaiza and the island.”.

The restaurant, which opened in 2019, is headed by chef Ruben Cuesta from Toledo and specializes in a 12-course tasting menu that highlights Lanzarote products and suppliers.

The Michelin Guide describes its offer as “creative cuisine with a deep-rooted local flavour, based on local products.”
