The Canarian Health Council has announced that everyone who has a birthday between the ages of 50 and 59 this year should be contacted shortly to receive the first appointment for their coronavirus vaccine, if they have not been contacted already.

The Health Council also said that those between the ages of 55 and 59 who have not yet been contacted can request a vaccine appointment by calling 928 595130. It’s important to note that this applies only to the over-55s for the moment, as several people in their early 50s have already mistakenly contacted the number.

Many appointments are being given for the Health Centre in Valterra, Arrecife which is one of the main centres with  storage capacity for the Pfizer vaccine. If you’re asked to attend Valterra, you’ll find the health centre directly opposite the HiperDino supermarket on Calle Benito Pérez Galdós – a large building with a lottery kiosk outside. Parking isn’t always easy on this road, but you’ll usually find a space on the inner ring-road (Rambla Medular) nearby or just park at HiperDino or Mercadona and do a bit of shopping after your jab.

There’ll usually be a queue when you arrive, but it moves pretty fast and you’ll get the appointment for your second jab when you received your first. If you’ve got travel or work commitments, they’ll reschedule.

Certificates are only supplied on request after both jabs are administered.
