Lanzarote’s dramatic volcanic landscapes have long attracted filmmakers seeking otherworldly backdrops, and the island will serve as the setting for Iranian director Mehdi Fard Ghaderi’s ambitious new sci-fi film “Phase Space.”

Scheduled to begin production in late September, the project marks Ghaderi’s fourth feature and continues his tradition of technical innovation – this time, with a single continuous take.
Produced by Geneva-based company Comigo, led by Iranian-Swiss producer Reza Fathollahipour, the film will be shot entirely in Spanish with a local cast.
PLOT
Phase Space follows four women who travel to a mysterious island after a meteorite crash triggers inexplicable changes among the inhabitants. Ghaderi describes the narrative as a blend of surreal visuals and psychological tension, unfolding in real time.
PRODUCTION
For Phase Space, Ghaderi plans two months of rehearsals followed by an intense 10-day shoot. The choice of Lanzarote was intentional, with Ghaderi noting that the island’s sensory atmosphere aligns perfectly with the film’s themes.
Post-production will take place in France, with hopes for a debut at the Cannes Film Festival.
