Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort met with Canarian Public Works minister Pablo Rodríguez yesterday to discuss imminent road projects on Lanzarote.
One of the main projects discussed was the new interchange between the LZ-2 main road and Arrecife’s outer ring road, the LZ-3, at the western entrance to Arrecife. This project has received objections from the César Manrique Foundation and the Proyecto Lanzarote 2021 group, who have described it as “another Scalextric track”
“We are working on improving the project so we can execute it and try to address the objections received during the public information phase. The aim is to reach a consensus with the Cabildo and have it definitively approved in the coming months,” explained Rodríguez.
It was also agreed to move forward with the Argana bypass project, an intervention that they assure “would improve access to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital and provide an effective solution to a problematic area for road traffic.” The Argana bypass will be a key element of the broader plan to build an entirely new main road connecting the hospital with the airport, relieving congestion in Playa Honda.
Another of the “priority projects” is the widening of the LZ-40 road from the airport to Puerto del Carmen, which was described as “a road with high traffic intensity and a high accident rate.”
