A technical report has confirmed that it is possible to install a helipad on the roof of the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife. Such an installation would greatly reduce the time taken transferring patients to and from the hospital.
Currently, emergency helicopters must land at the airport and patients are transferred by ambulance to and from the hospital. However, the report now opens the possibility that helicopters may land directly on the hospital’s roof, cutting out the requirement for ambulance transfers.
Installing a helipad on the ground near the hospital has been ruled out, as it would interfere with parking and access, but the roof-based helipad is a possibility, although it will require authorisation, funding and certain modifications to the structure.
