Eight people, including a four-month-old baby, were injured this week when a car lost control and crashed into a crowded restaurant terrace on the main tourist street in Corralejo, Fuerteventura.
Five of the victims were seriously injured, including the infant and an 18-year-old woman, who were taken by helicopter to adult and children’s hospitals on Gran Canaria. The other three are in Fuerteventura’s hospital.
The incident occurred on the Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the main street in central Corralejo, and was caused by an Enlñgish toursit at the wheel ofg a hire car, accordinmg top press reports.
Security video has been released showing the moment of impact, as the car, travelling at speed, hits a table full of diners, knocking at least three people several metres and destroying a lamppost, and two wastepaper bins.
