The number of holiday rental properties on Lanzarote has almost doubled since June 2023, according to figures from the Canarian Government’s General Tourist Register.

5,198 holiday lets were registered in June last year, a total which has now risen to 9,205. The reason for the rapid increase is almost certainly the Canarian Government’s new holiday rental law, which will come into effect shortly and introduce strict new requirements for registering.

This has led to a rush of owners registering properties before the law comes into effect. The Canarian Government refused to introduce a moratorium on registries, despite being requested to do so by four Canarian Cabildos.

Yaiza is the municipality with the highest amount of registered holiday lets, with 2,611. It is followed by Tías, with 2,449.
