High wind speeds cause damage on Lanzarote

A gust of 80 kph was registered at César Manrique Airport, as Lanzarote suffered strong winds for the last two days.

Emergency services were called to attend several incidents caused by the wind, including a fallen palm tree and a loose sign in Playa Blanca, a broken telephone cable in Arrecife and the roof of a council warehouse in San Bartolomé.

The wind has now calmed down considerably, with calm, fine conditions predicted for the weekend.
