Today’s orange heat alert will be downgraded to a yellow alert on Lanzarote tomorrow (Thursday).

A yellow alert is the lowest level of warning and means that the public should remain informed and perhaps reconsider certain activities that may be affected by heat. Maximum temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius are forecast on the south-east coast of the island.

Lanzarote’s Emergency Consortium has advised that citizens avoid working in the open air between the hours of 9am and 6 pm while the heatwave lasts.

It will also be windy. A yellow wind alert has also been issued for Thursday, with gusts that may reach up to 70 kph on elevated areas in the east and the south.

Both yellow alerts will last from 9 pm on Thursday morning until midnight.
