Yaiza has granted a four-year extension to the deadline for the construction of a five-star hotel in Playa Blanca. the extension was granted at the request of the developers, Explotaciones e Inversiones Timanfaya SL.

The planned hotel will be situated near the largest hotel on the island, the 1,400-bed Barcelo Playa Blanca that opened in December 2023.

Meanwhile, Teguise Ayuntamiento Teguise has granted a licence for the construction of a 300-bed tourist apartment complex on the Punto de Jablillo. The site of the planned hotel, an ugly excavation filled with concrete and steel foundations, has been a shameful eyesore for decades. The promoters are the Bilbao-based Kategora Maresía Development company.

Both developments were previously granted tourist licences by the Cabildo, at a time when protests against mass tourism were demanding a moratorium on new hotels, and the general consensus on the island is that there is too much tourism. Island authorities have always responded by saying they want more quality and less quantity, but their actions seem to show they think they can have more of both.
