Any resident in the Canary Islands can now request a date for their Covid vaccine. The Canarian Health Service has provided an online application form that can be filled in and submitted automatically. All you need to do is provide your DNI or NIE, give your first name (nombre) and surname ( apellido) , nsd leave a mobile phone number. The service claims that they will send an SMS with your appointment within 48 hours.

However, younger applicants can still expect a wait, as the vaccination programme is still going down through the age groups. The Canaries aims to vaccinate all the target group (over-18s) this summer.

Over-55s without an appointment are urged to call 012 or 928 595130, while non-residents are advised to attend their local health centre and register there.

Meanwhile, Lanzarote appears to be recovering from the spike in cases caused by the gym outbreak. The island registered seven new cases yesterday, and the large amount of recoveries means that the number of active cases on the island is now descending rapidly.

Infection rates are also dropping steadily on the Canaries as a whole, with just 79 cases on all of the islands yesterday. At a 14-day rate of 84 cases per 100,000 people, the infection rates on the islands are now well below the Spanish average of 130.
