Researchers from the archeological dig at San Marcial de Rubicón suspect that the four children’s skeletons found last year could be the first generation of offspring of European conquistadores and Canarian women.

María del María del Cristo González and Esther Chávez have issued a report of preliminary findings which describes the discovery of remains at the site on Papagayo beach – the first European settlement on the Canaries.

The researchers also announced that they had found examples from pottery from Europe and also from Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, which they suspect was brought back to the settlement from expeditions to those islands by expedition leaders Jean de Bethencourt y Gadifer de la Salle.
