The Cabildo has announced that the first edition of the book Cocina Traditional de Lanzarote is on the verge of being completely sold out, following an overwhelming public response.
The publication, authored by local expert José Nieves Caraballo (Fefo), was launched as a free gift to the island’s residents in a bid to preserve its rich gastronomic heritage. The initiative has clearly struck a chord, with the Cabildo reporting a massive volume of requests through its online portal.
Due to this surge in demand, they can no longer guarantee that new requests for the book will be fulfilled. Officials are urging those who have already secured a copy to collect it as soon as possible from the Casa Amarilla, in Arrecife, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Once the limited remaining stock is gone, uncollected reservations will be reallocated in order of request.
To date, an impressive 2,500 copies have been distributed to the public as part of a campaign designed to safeguard local recipes and cooking traditions, ensuring they are passed down through generations.
The councillor responsible for the Cabildo’s Publications Service, Ascensión Toledo, said the public’s reaction confirms the deep connection islanders have with their history. “The great response we have received confirms the enormous affection that Lanzarote society feels for its roots and culinary tradition. With this book, we are not only sharing recipes, but also the memory and identity of our land.”
This rapid sell-out underscores that the flavours of Lanzarote’s past are more cherished than ever.
