The latest exhibition at La Casa Amarilla, paying tribute to the photojournalists who have documented Lanzarote’s modern history, has welcomed more than 4,000 visitors since opening in October.
” Fotoperiodismo. Una visión colectiva de Lanzarote,” on display at La Casa Amarilla, has attracted 4,108 visitors in its first two months. The exhibition will remain open to the public until January 31st, 2026.
Organised by the Veintinueve Trece collective and the Cabildo, the showcase brings together the work of 23 press photographers. It presents a visual chronicle of the island’s defining themes and events across recent decades, including fishing, agriculture, tourism, politics, social movements, health, education, immigration, art, culture, sports, and traditional festivals.
The exhibition is described as an invitation to view reality with honesty and commitment. It reveals how photojournalism has preserved a visual record of the island’s most recent history, from the decline of the fishing industry and the rise of tourism to social struggles, the consolidation of democracy, and the legacy of artist César Manrique.
Featured photographers include Adriel Perdomo, Alberto Hugo Rojas, Carlos Sotillo, Dory Hernández, Eileen Luna, Fañi García, Felipe de la Cruz, Fran Fajardo, Javi Fuentes, Javier Mayordomo, Javier Sáenz “Javito,” Jesús Porteros, José Luis Carrasco, José Luis Rojas, José María del Corral, Juan Mateos, Kepa Herrero, Luisa Stinga, Miguel Hernández, Noemí Acuña, Pepe Vera, Sergio Betancort, and Suso/Jesús Betancort.
These individuals represent a significant part of the island’s photojournalism scene. The organisers also acknowledge the many other professionals who, through various media outlets, continually contribute to building Lanzarote’s visual memory.
The exhibition has been made possible through the contributions of the photographers themselves and the island’s media companies. These organisations have donated their graphic archives to the Cabildo for digitisation and inclusion in the Memoria Digital de Lanzarote.
While the display includes photos from outlets such as Diario de Lanzarote and El Reportero Gráfico, the bulk of the material comes from the archives of Lancelot, La Voz de Lanzarote, and Isla Informativa. The digitisation of more than 40,000 paper images was funded by a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
The exhibition also formed part of the programme for the 10th Lanzarote Photography and Visual Arts Festival, which was held from 10th to 15th November.
