Last Friday, Teguise Ayuntamiento hosted the “Esports Teguise Competition” at the Centro Cívico, challenging gamers in a head-to-head videogame battle.

The esports competition aims to promote the development of competitive gaming in the Canary Islands.

Last Friday, more than fifteen professional gamers from the municipality attended the training and educational talks given by Martindipity (a YouTube content creator from Gran Canaria) and Yunayre (a professional in the esports world from Tenerife.)

In addition to this, Nira Santana, highlighted the importance of women in the videogame sector, and the importance of gender equality.

The winners Ilidio Samuel (Best Clash Royale Player), Alenjandro Fontes (Best Tekken 7 Player), and Elghin Marrero (Best Fifa 23 Player) will represent the municipality in future tournaments that will pit the best gamers from each municipality against each other for the title of the best gamer on Lanzarote.

Teguise Ayuntamiento’s Youth Councillor, Sara Bermudez, stated that “we will continue to support these types of competitions that are fun and entertaining for young people but are also seen as a professional outlet in a growing industry.”
