It’s that time of year again, as the big swells start to arrive on Lanzarote’s north coast and the island gets ready for the surfing event of the season, celebrated on the “best volcanic reef break in the world” – the El Quemao wave just off the coast of La Santa.
The El Quemao Class competition was officially launched yesterday at the Cabildo. However, as usual, no one knows exactly when it will take place. Instead, organizers will wait for the optimum wind and sea conditions before giving the green light with a few days’ notice.
The competition usually occurs in December.
