The news that the Las Palmas Port authority has rejected a proposal for a university building for the training of nurses in Arrecife’s port area and instead wishes to install a cheap petrol station has caused controversy.
The head of Lanzarote’s Chamber of Commerce and Lanzarote’s University Foundation, José Valle, has criticised the port authority for the decision, saying “It seems as though we’re not interested in going forward and wish to remain in the past.”
Valle claims the Authority’s President encouraged him to submit an application for the university facility, before turning it down.
The site in question is near the current National Police station on the Rambla Medular. A third low-cost petrol station is planned for the area despite the presence of several petrol stations already in the area.
