The Diablos de Haría (Devils of Haría) announced the launch of their new costume at the Cabildo on Friday. The costume will remain a surprise until 11 pm on Tuesday, 23rd June, when Haría will hold its traditional bonfire night as part of the town’s San Juan celebrations.

The new costume was designed by San Bartolomé-based designer Oswaldo Machín, and will incorporate traditional crafts from Lanzarote. The launch of the costume was attended by Diablos President Carlos Betancort, along with the Cabildo’s Craft and Culture Councillors.

The Devils of Haría have been a part of Haría’s San Juan celebrations for over 30 years, and their appearances have become more dramatic and memorable over the years. As spectators gather, the devils emerge from rooftops and trees, place an effigy of Don Facundo on the fire and then set light to it. Once it is ablaze, they perform their ritual Fire Dance.
