20 individuals are under investigation for illegal constructions on Lanzarote. The properties in question are located in the municipalities of Haría and Tías.

The Guardia Civil’s nature protection wing, SEPRONA, recently inspected 42 buildings and has placed 20 people under investigation for offences against planning regulations. They could face prison sentences, heavy fines and demolition orders.

SEPRONA acted with the aid of the Canarian Environment Agency and Hari’as planning department, and drone units have been employed to gather data. The Guardia Civil has recommended that citizens get full information about the viability of planned projects before purchasing land or developing properties.

A second phase of inspections will be carried out shortly and the number of investigations is expected to increase.
