The trade union Comisiones Obreras has denounced “thousands” of undelivered letters and parcels at the Correos centre in Arrecife.

They claim the backlog is a result of “staff shortages that have lasted for months, and the inefficiency of distribution managers.”

The union claims that there are more than 24,000 letters and 12,000 registered deliveries waiting to be distributed and the total number could be even higher, as other mail has been retained at the Las Palmas treatment centre because of lack of space in Arrecife.

The union estimates that the workforce is 25% under strength and has been for several months.
