Canarias7 reports that the contract for new composting facility at the recycling centre in Zonzamas is likely to be awarded for a price of €6 million.

The composting plant will allow 3,500 tons of bio-waste and 875 tons of vegetable waste to be treated, creating 2,600 tons of compost every year. This initiative is closely linked to the introduction of brown waste containers for organic waste, which will be rolled out over the next few years.

The composting will take place in a 2,200 square-metre warehouse equipped with fermentation trenches and forced ventilation to accelerate the composting process.
