At 2 am tonight, in the early hours of Sunday, the clocks go back one hour, bringing the Canaries back to Greenwich Mean Time.
The islands currently operate on exactly the same hours as the UK and Ireland and no changes are currently planned, although Spain recently petitioned the EU to abolish clock changes – a measure which has widespread support in many countries.
The change means that mornings will be lighter as the sun rises at around 7 am, but it will get dark earlier in the evening, with sunset at around 6.15.
The good news is that everyone gets an extra hour in bed.
