The picturesque resort of Costa Teguise and its historic municipal capital, Teguise, come together to create a uniquely charming festive season. While the full programme is packed with events, the heart of the celebrations often beats within its traditional Christmas markets, offering a perfect blend of local crafts, gastronomy, and live entertainment.
The festive spirit takes hold with not one, but two beloved markets. The first is the enchanting Mercado Navideño de Teguise, held in the stunning Plaza de los Leones in the old capital. Set against the backdrop of historic architecture, this market offers a magical shopping experience for unique handicrafts and local products. Following this, the Mercado Navideño de Costa Teguise brings the festivities to the coast, transforming the Anfiteatro at Playa de Las Cucharas into a bustling hub of festive stalls. It’s the perfect place to find a special gift while enjoying the sunny seaside atmosphere.
These markets are more than just shopping destinations; they are community events accompanied by a programme of live music. Visitors can expect to hear everything from the powerful performances of the Teguise concert band, ‘Teguiband’, to the delicate and traditional sounds of the island’s best timple students during special concerts. The season also features beautiful cultural inaugurations, including the turning on of the town’s Christmas lights and the unveiling of the elaborate municipal nativity scene, a true work of art crafted by a local sculptor.
For families, the highlight is undoubtedly the festive parade of Santa Claus, who arrives in Costa Teguise with great fanfare, parading from the seafront to the amphitheatre for a special gala event. The season culminates, as across the island, with the magnificent tour of the Three Kings. In a truly special tradition, Their Majesties embark on an epic journey on January 5th, visiting nearly every single village in the municipality from first light, before their grand arrival in Costa Teguise in the afternoon, ensuring no child is missed.
While the Christmas markets are a central pillar, the full schedule includes choir meetings, opera festivals, and lively New Year’s Eve celebrations with fireworks in both Teguise and Costa Teguise.
The official Christmas events programme for Teguise and Costa Teguise has not yet been announced. The full list of confirmed dates and times for all 2025 festive events will be published in English on our website as soon as the Ayuntamiento de Teguise releases the details later this year. Check back to plan your perfect festive visit!
