Jameos del Agua, the party venue created by César Manrique, will stage a musical devoted to his life and legacy from the 11th to the 14th May at 8pm.

The 95-minute performance will show “the passions, desires and frustrations of a genius who always defended independent thinking, commitment to his island, the value of creativity, the symbiosis of nature and art, the environment, the union of tradition and modernity and the transformation of  nature into a tourist asset without changing its essence,” according to the Cabildo.

Directed by Israel Reyes, the musical will feature 40 actors including Mingo Ruano, who will play Manrique, and singer Olga Cerpa. It will follow Manrique’s life from his childhood in Famara, to his artistic maturity ion Madrid and New York, before he returned to transform his native island.

Tickets cost €35, and are available at cactlanzarote.com/tickets/cesar-manrique-el-musical/
