The César Manrique Foundation has released a video protesting against Canarian Government plans to reclassify rural land to build social housing.
The video, published on Instagram, shows an unspoilt volcanic landscape that is suddenly obstructed by apartments, hotels and cranes, followed by the slogan “Save rustic land, save what remains.”
A 1986 quote from Manrique ends the video: “Tremble with fear as we observe how they destroy us and overcrowd us.”
The Canarian Government has recently revealed that its planned law to address the acute housing crisis on the islands will involve reclassification of rural land to allow public building projects.
The César Manrique Foundation was established by the artist in 1982 to preserve and promote his work and protect the environment.
