The Dr José Molina Orosa hospital in Arrecife has added five cardiologists to its staff and has reported a 36% increase in consultations with the cardiology department in the first four months of this year.
The new appointments have reinforced the department’s staff to 13 professionals, who carried out 3,708 consultations until May this year.
The hospital has stated that the new appointments were vital “to strengthen the service’s response capacity, and to continue advancing in the care and comprehensive approach to patients with cardiovascular disease”.
One of the most important recent advances has been the possibility of consultations at patients’ local health centres, which has been made possible due to the installation of ultrasound systems. Initially introduced in February 2024 in the health centres of Valterra and Titerroy in Arrecife and at Puerto del Carmen, the initiative has been extended to Costa Teguise and San Bartolomé, and almost 2,000 consultations have been carried out at health centres.
