The Guardía Civil have announced the arrest of two people in connection with a spate of hire car burglaries on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The suspects were arrested after a surveillance operation in carparks used by tourists. The thieves waited until cars were unattended before breaking a window and extracting objects of value.
The suspects will be charged with 24 burglaries and seven attempted burglaries and agents claim that several of the stolen items have been recovered and returned to their owners.
The Guardía Civil has reminded citizens not to leave valuables such as phones, cameras or bags in cars where they can be seen and, ideally, to put them in the boot before reaching a parking place. Doors and windows should be closed and locked manually, as frequency inhibitors can be used to prevent remote controlled keys.
