A speed camera in Lanzarote’s Timanfaya region has generated more fines than any other in the Canary Islands and is one of the top 15 earners in Spain.
The radar trap is located at the 20 km point of the LZ-67, just outside Yaiza and has issued more than 25,000 denuncias last year, more than eight times the 3,000 in 2023.
The speed limit on the LZ-67 is 60 kph, as the road is classified as a cycling route, and is indeed used by hundreds of cyclists every week. However, it is also one of the most beautiful roads on the island – a ribbon of asphalt through a volcanic wasteland that has been repeatedly used in publicity photos and advertising campaigns.
