Canary Islands airports attended 1,602 passengers wearing “invisible disability” badges in 2024, which facilitate the passage through the airport facilities for passengers with special needs.
The airports where it can be used are Tenerife South, which last year had a total of 433 requests; Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 393 requests; Gran Canaria, with 383; César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 266 and Fuerteventura, with 127.
WHAT IS AENA’S INVISIBLE DISABILITIES BADGE
In 2023, AENA introduced a “Invisible Disabilities” badge in order to prevent people with said disabilities from facing barriers at their airports, such as a lack of understanding or possible negative attitudes towards their behaviour.
The badge, aimed at people with invisible disabilities who have difficulties in stressful environments or with a lot of sensory stimulation, indicates that the person may need support, help or simply understanding and a little more time for any activity at the airport.
By showing the badge you will be able to access the airport’s dedicated security checkpoint for families and persons with reduced mobility (PRMs).
In the event that the airport from which you are traveling does not have a dedicated security checkpoint for families and PRMs, you will be facilitated, as far as possible, to pass through the general security checkpoint. Travellers can apply for the badge at this link: https://www.aena.es/es/pasajeros/viajeros/personas-con-necesidades-especiales/discapacidades-invisibles/distintivo-discapacidades-invisibles.html
