The Canarian Government has announced an additional investment of €48,222.08 for the new Costa Teguise bus station, exceeding two million euros total.

The new bus station in Costa Teguise will run over a quarter of a million Euros over budget, owing to the increased cost of materials.

Originally contracted for a cost of €2.36 million, the revised figure now stands at €2.61 million.

The Department of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility, led by Director General of Transport and Mobility María Fernández, has granted an additional €48,222.08 to the Lanzarote Cabildo. This funding will finance the construction of the new Costa Teguise bus station, reimbursing funds initially advanced by the Cabildo to ensure the project’s full completion.

The new infrastructure is designed to improve public transport in Costa Teguise. One of the key aims of the project is to encourage greater use of public transport, aligning with wider sustainable mobility goals.

Fernández emphasised the importance of the additional contribution. “With this additional contribution, we guarantee the completion of a key infrastructure for sustainable mobility in Lanzarote, meeting the milestones and objectives required by Europe and supporting the economic effort made by the Cabildo,” she stated.

Fernández also highlighted the project as a tangible benefit of European investment. “The Costa Teguise station is an example of how European funds can translate into real improvements for citizens, promoting more efficient and accessible public transport that is in line with the ecological transition.”

The bus station is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026 after works commenced in 2024.  It will be a base of operation for buses and taxis, with an information point and a cafeteria. There will also be some parking spaces, charging points for electric vehicles and areas adapted for the disabled.
