Overnight rain has cleared most of the calima that has covered the island for the last few days.
The heaviest rainfall was registered in the north and west of Lanzarote, with over 7 litres per square metre falling on Haría and 4.6 litres in Playa Blanca. The south-east received the least rain , with 3.3 litres landing on Arrecife and 1.8 on Costa Teguise.
Southerly winds mean that unsettled weather is likely to continue. While the sun may break through later today, the forecast for Thursday is more cloud and a high chance of further rain and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Current forecasts predict a return of the prevailing north-eastern alisio winds on Monday, which will bring warmer, finer weather. Forecasting more than a few days ahead is notoriously difficult on Lanzarote at this time of year, but carnival-goers preparing for the big parade in Arrecife on Monday will be hoping the experts are right.
