The Cabildo has spent €3.5 million to acquire plots for social housing in Arrecife.
The area of the plots, located in the barrio of Valterra, totals 5,000 square metres. Cabildo president Oswaldo Betancort said the purchase was “a crucial step” in addressing the housing crisis.
Betancort said “The tourist industry has brought many economic benefits to our territory, but it has also caused difficulties for young people and workers in finding affordable housing. With this initiative, we seek to ensure that the citizens of Lanzarote can enjoy the constitutional right to decent housing.”
The Cabildo also expects to purchase various plots destined for social housing in Yaiza in the near future.
