Cabildo buys historic hospital in Arrecife

The Cabildo has purchased the Casa del Cabreron in Arrecife for €600,000.

The building was constructed by the Cabrera family in 1887 from volcanic basalt and lime and was one of the few houses on the island higher than one floor. It is most well-known for being the site of the first hospital on Lanzarote, known as the Hospital de los Dolores. 

The building later went on to be used as a dance hall and a military building before falling into its current disuse.

The Cabildo has said that its aim is to “restore the building to its former glory and find a use for it within the social and cultural life of the island.”
