Tías Ayuntamiento will start to install brown rubbish containers for organic waste in April, it has announced.
97 brown containers will first be provided to hotels and apartment complexes in Puerto del Carmen, and the rest of the municipality will be supplied afterwards.
Brown containers are intended for the disposal of fruit and vegetable waste, meat and fish, eggshells, shellfish and nuts, other food remains, coffee grounds and tealeaves, old-style corks and sawdust, used kitchen paper and paper napkins and small amounts of garden waste.
“Our future depends on us correctly separating our waste,” said Mayor José Juan Cruz, launching a campaign to inform hotel staff about the use of the bins. “Recycling properly will mean less rubbish ending up in the landfill.”.
