Bathing has been prohibited at two beaches in Costa Teguise following a sewage leak 50 metres offshore.
The beaches at Playa Bastian and El Ancla (behind the Barcelo hotel) were closed yesterday abd will remain closed until sometime today (Friday 5th), when further analyses will be carried out.
Eugenio Robayna, Teguise’s councillor in charge of security and emergencies, blamed the sewage leak on people flushing wet-wipes and nappies down toilets. Although the leak has been repaired, bathing will remain prohibited until contamination has dispersed.
