Arrecife still seeking a location for Rising Tide sculptures

Arrecife Ayuntamiento is still seeking a location for the Rising Tide sculptures by Jason de Caires Taylor.

Canarias7 reports that the Heritage Department of the council has said that the sculptures cannot be placed near the Castillo de San Gabriel, as it is a listed building. The same consideration applies to the Islote de Fermina.

Returning the “four horsemen” to their original location at the foot of the Castillo de San Juan in Puerto Naos has also been ruled out.

The sculptures were removed in 2019 under the previous Cabildo government, who claimed they were only intended to be temporary, that they were not original works and that they did not have any links with the legacy of César Manrique. They are currently in a warehouse in Playa Honda.

However, the current Cabildo ruling group have pledged to reinstate the sculptures and are in the process of paying €200,000 for them.
