Last Friday, Arrecife embraced the Christmas spirit in their annual “switch-on” event with hundreds in attendance to see the lights flicker on and admire the largest Christmas tree on Lanzarote.

It was an evening full of festive cheer as residents observed a Christmas parade along Arrecife’s sea front – with lit-up dancers, cars and, of course, Santa himself.
In a speech, Arrecife’s Mayor stated, “This year we welcome Christmas with the largest Christmas tree in Lanzarote with the same height as the bell tower of the Church of San Ginés.”.
On Facebook the mayor added, “Last night we welcomed Christmas. Arrecife is illuminated, in the neighbourhoods, and in the historical enclaves that are part of Arrecife as a port and city. Today the patron saint of Lanzarote, the Virgen de Los Dolores, will be illuminated on her arrival in our capital and her meeting with San Ginés.”
