More than 50 aircraft from Spain, Germany, Portugal, Greece, the USA and India are currently taking part in the Ocean Sky 2025 aerial combat training exercise in skies south of the Canary Islands.
Running from the 15th to 31st October, the exercise is based at Gando Air Base in Gran Canaria with operational support from Lanzarote’s Air Base, which was upgraded from Military Aerodrome status two months ago.
Eurofighter Typhoons and F-18M fighters from Spain’s Air and Space Force are involved, along with F-18M, Eurofighter, F-16 C/D B50, F-16 Fighting Falcon M, F-15E, Su-30MKI aircraft from other participating air forces, as well as MRTT, KC-767, KC-30M, A-332, and A400M tanker aircraft.
Stable weather conditions and lack of air traffic over the Atlantic south of the Canaries have been chosen for this training exercise, which will simulate aerial combat between large air forces.
