AEMET has issued a yellow alert for high seas and waves that could reach up to four metres in height. The alert applies from 1 am to 10 am on Tuesday morning.
The Canarian Government has also downgraded its alert for rough seas to pre-alert status (which effectively warns emergency services to be prepared for possible incidents).
As is usual this winter, the heavy swells will mainly affect the northern and western coasts of the island and it remains advisable to avoid these areas if possible, or treat them with the utmost of respect.
