Three out of five Lanzarote residents think that the number of tourists on the island is “appropriate” according to the latest Social Barometer Survey.
60.8% of residents see no problem with the number of tourists, while 23% believe it is excessive and 10.4% think there aren’t enough.
Over half of islanders (53.6%) say that tourism improves the general quality of life. Almost three quarters of those surveyed (74.1%) believe that tourism is beneficial to the island in terms of employment. 70.5% think it improves cultural activities and over 58% say it improves infrastructure.
However, a majority of those surveyed say that tourism has a negative effect on citizens’ security (52.8%), the cost of living (56.5%) and transport and healthcare (57.7%).
As for housing, 58.9% of those surveyed said that tourism had a negative effect.
