A group of 42 pensioners from the Basque Country were left stranded at the César Manrique Airport on Friday.

The decision was taken by the plane’s captain and was taken because of “excess weight” on the aircraft, combined with strong winds and the short runway at Guacimeta.

Members of the group, who were due to fly back to Bilbao with Vueling, have accused the airline of “age discrimination”, but the airline claims the decision was taken on the grounds of order of arrival.
