42% of Lanzarote islanders believe life has got worse since last year, according to a survey on social attitudes by the Cabildo’s statistics centre. The main worries of islanders   are the housing crisis and the rising cost of living.

Nevertheless, over half, (52%) rated the economic situation of the island positively.

Of the main problems worrying islanders, the housing situation was the most pressing, with 39% of people rating it as their main concern. This was followed by rising prices (33%). Immigration, both regular and irregular, was the third greatest worry at 14%.,

Other issues mentioned as causing concern were poor employment conditions, the pressure on public transport, hospital waiting lists and the state of water supplies on the island.

The survey involved interviews with 609 adult residents on Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
