Guardía Civil have described how the strong smell of cannabis led to the arrest of a 27-year-old British man at César Manrique Airport in June.
Security staff were alerted to the presence of a suspiciously lightweight suitcase with a strong smell after it had been checked onto a flight to Tenerife. Agents approached the owner and opened the suitcase in his presence to reveal four vacuum-sealed bags, each containing a kilogram of marijuana buds, with an estimated value of €7,261.
The man was arrested under public health charges.
