Cruise tourism is showing significant recovery in Arrecife after the pandemic, with over 280,000 passenger arrivals this year compared to 162,000 during the same period in 2022.

Between the months of January to September this year, Arrecife has recorded a large increase in cruise passenger arrivals. During the same time period in 2022 the island recorded 162,021 passengers compared to this year’s 287,995.

2022 closed with just over 330,000 cruise passenger arrivals and forecasts for the remainder of 2023 show that last year’s total number of passengers will be surpassed (according to the Las Palmas Port Authority forecast: https://www.palmasport.es/es/cruceros/prevision-de-cruceros/.)

Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has highlighted that these statistics show the good tourist year, including cruise tourism, that Arrecife is experiencing, contributing to employment and the local economy.

De León added that Arrecife Ayuntamiento have a plan in place to revitalise the commercial area of Arrecife to support small businesses and the hospitality sector. With this plan they have began works to transform the image of Arrecife with work on the Arrecife seafront.
