Playa El Reducto in Arrecife has introduced new beach loungers adapted for people with reduced mobility, as part of ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and facilities at the capital’s main beach.

The new adapted sunbeds became available this week and are located next to the sun deck and accessible walkway.

The announcement forms part of a wider programme of improvements to beach services at El Reducto.

Recent measures include installing facilities for people with ostomies in the beach toilets, providing new amphibious chairs for people with limited mobility, and extending the opening hours of beach services and lifeguard cover.

The beach also offers free supervised lockers, while a 24-hour alarm system connected to the Arrecife Local Police has been installed to improve safety.

Arrecife’s mayor said further work was needed to make Arrecife a more accessible city, with fewer barriers and better facilities for people with reduced mobility.

He added that several projects and investments aimed at improving accessibility were currently underway.
